There are a few very common acne medicines and these products have been proven over the years to be very effective in most cases to getting rid of your acne. So the question that you need to have answered is: What acne medications should you use?

Benzoyl peroxide - Benzoyl peroxide has been a popular acne medication for many many years. This is the base medication in Clearasil and if your look through the pharmacy it is probably in most of the lotions for acne relief that you can buy. Probably the most effective active ingredient, benzoyl peroxide kills the P. acnes bacteria that causes acne. Benzoyl peroxide also helps to remove excess oils from the skin and removes dead skin cells that clog pores. Available in strengths from 2.5 percent to 10 percent. There are of course some drawbacks to using these lotions benzoyl peroxide can cause excessive dryness, redness and some swelling. It can also make your skin more sensitive to sunlight or suntan beds.

Salicylic acid - Salicylic acidis an ingredient that slows shedding of cells inside the hair follicles, as you can imagine this prevents the pores from clogging which is one of the big ways that acne can grow. Salicylic acid may also break down blackheads -pores that are open and have a dark surface- and whiteheads -clogged pores that have no opening- as these are the two types of acne that you are struggling with. What is the drawback of using Salicylic acid? Well it can cause mild stinging and skin irritation. Over the counter acne products are available with 0.5 percent to 2 percent salicylic acid.

Sulfur and resorcinol - I had some luck with Sulphur based products in the past although it is rarely used alone. Sulfur and resorcinol are often found together in products. These ingredients remove dead skin cells that clog pores and help remove excess oil. They may also break down whiteheads and blackheads. Resorcinol and Sulfur can cause redness and peeling, which may occur several days after using the product.

Alcohol - Alcohol is probably the most common product used to fight acne although it is the least effective. Alcohol is often available in astringents and other cleansing washes, alcohol and acetone remove dirt and oils from the skin. Although alcohol can kill lots of bacteria most people use it for it's ability to clean grease out of pores. Products that contain alcohol can cause a mild burning or stinging sensation.

So which is the best for you? I would say that the alcohol once a day is probably good for getting rid of your oily complexion but it is not nearly as effective as some of the others for actually killing the acne bacteria. There are also many new products on the market that work from the inside out instead of using these lotions to cure acne from the outside in.

Acne Tips - Beware Popular Brands Make Acne Worse!

The shocking must read truth is that the most popular skin care brands targeted towards treating acne are damaging to your skin and make acne worse. Learning the truth will save you disappointment, money and a lot of time.

Many advertisements are aimed at making consumers (you) believe that if you buy their products your acne will vanish and you will have clear, smooth and radiant skin. Pretty models rub cleanser onto their cheeks then splash it off all the while beaming with joy at this so called miraculous product. When you're suffering from unattractive breakouts and red inflamed pimples, it's easy to be led astray and you constantly find yourself desperately buying each new pimple fighting product determined that this time it's going to work, only it never does.

Below is a review on some products in two of the most popular acne targeted skin care ranges.

Clean & Clear:

Continuous Control Acne Cleanser contains Vaseline and mineral oil which adds a lot of unwanted oil and works towards clogging your pores causing more pimples to form.

Other products you should never use from this line are; Continuous Control Acne Wash Oil Free, Deep Action Cleansing Wipes Oil Free, Deep Action Cream Cleanser, Clarifying Toner, Oil Fighting Deep Cleaning Astringent, Sensitive Skin Astringent, Moisturizing Mist, Invisible Blemish Treatment and Overnight Acne Patches.

All of these products contain potently irritating ingredients like camphor, peppermint and clove which work to make skin red and inflamed. Many of these products have a high percentage of alcohol which is also highly irritating and extremely drying towards skin, making your skin flake and peel adding to your problems. Alcohol (the only exception being SD Alcohol) not only irritates and angers the skin, but prolongs healing time.

Also any Salicylic Acid which these products contain is not effective in the least because of the low dosage and the incorrect PH level which renders this ingredient ineffective towards treating acne.

Clearasil:

Considering how long Clearasil has been around, you'd think by now it would have succeeded in curing somebody's acne. It's hard to understand why Clearasil is making such bad products, but it's a testament to their advertising department that they can still convince people to buy their merchandise.

All of their products are very bad choices when it comes not only to fighting acne, but for all skin in general. Many of their products contain menthol and alcohol which is harmful to the skin and which causes pimples to become red, angry and inflamed.

Vanishing Treatment Cream Maximum Strength touts a 10% benzoyl peroxide which is a great ingredient for treating acne, however in the same product they use isopropyl myristate which causes breakouts.

Adult Care Acne Tinted Cream is one of the most highly irritating and damaging skin care products for acne. It not only contains alcohol but also has resorcinol, sulphur and isopropyl myristate all very irritating ingredients. This product clogs pores, is drying (in a very bad way) and causes redness and irritation and damages the skin.

It's a major cause of concern that the majority of skin care products that advertise treating acne not only have no effect on eliminating pimples but actually cause them to look worse. Finding an effective acne treatment is like finding a diamond in the rough, the search is a very expensive game of hit and miss.

Finding truthful and factual information on acne is the best first step you can take in clearing your skin. Rising above the hype and glitzy advertisements is hard, but needs to be done if you want great skin.

Gel air freshener

Described is a substantially rigid aqueous clear gel matrix air freshener article having included therein one or more gel matrix icons, the dimensions of which, on use of the article, decrease in proportion to the dimensions of the body of the air freshener article in which the icons are suspended and imbedded.

The article contains water; gel matrix material which can be a hydrolyzed protein gel material such as gelatin or a polysaccharide gel material such as gellan gum; a system-compatible air freshener fragrance composition contained in one or more of the icons and/or contained in the gel matrix air freshener body; and a surfactant contained in the body.

This invention relates to substantially rigid, clear gel matrix air freshener articles having included therein one or more gel matrix icons, the dimensions of which decrease in proportion to the dimensions of the body of the air freshener article, in which the icons are imbedded, on use thereof, as a result of water and fragrance emission therefrom into the environment surrounding the articles.

The prior art does disclose substantially rigid clear aqueous and non-aqueous polymeric air freshener articles which contain visibly detectable icons, for example, icons which are botanicals, all hereby incorporated by reference as if set forth in their entirety. However, such prior art aqueous and non-aqueous polymeric icon-containing air freshener articles do not have the unexpected and non-obvious advantages that the aqueous gel matrix icon-containing articles of our invention have. Indeed, the prior art does not specifically or implicitly teach the advantages of icon construction from gel matrix materials and use of such icons in conjunction with substantially rigid clear gel matrix aqueous air freshener articles.

The substantially rigid gel matrix air freshener articles contemplated by our invention, prior to use, are intended to be fully enclosed by an air tight packaging material whereby water molecules and fragrance composition molecules that are contained in the gel matrix icons and in the gel matrix air freshener body can not be transported outwardly from the article of our invention to the environment surrounding the article. On removal of such air tight packaging material from around the gel-matrix air freshener article of our invention, removing the gel matrix air freshener article of our invention from the surrounding air tight packaging material, the gel matrix air freshener article of our invention is, at that point in time, "in use" in accordance with the practice of our invention.

The air freshener article of our invention may, as an alternative to the gel matrix material which is a polysaccharide, contain in the gel matrix air freshener body and/or in the gel matrix icon a hydrolyzed protein gel matrix material composed of gelatin having an isoelectric point of from about 4 up to about 7, a type `B` gelatin.

The purpose of the presence, in the gel matrix air freshener body and/or icon, of the non-gelling hydrocolloid is as a processing aid for gelling; that is, preventing syneresis and improving clarity in the gel matrix on use of the gel matrix air freshener article of our invention.

As stated herein, an air freshener fragrance composition is included in either the gel matrix air freshener body or in at least one gel matrix icon or in both the gel matrix air freshener body and in at least one gel matrix icon. Where such air freshener fragrance is used, it is used in an amount of between about 0.1% and about 20% by weight of the composition, preferably in an amount between about 1% and about 10% by weight, most preferably in an amount of about 5% by weight.

In the gel matrix air freshener article of our invention, when at least one of the gel matrix icons contained in the gel matrix air freshener body contains an air freshening fragrance composition prior to use of the article, the icon containing the air freshener fragrance composition may also contain a surfactant having a hydrophile/lipophile balance of less than about 10.
