Acne Nodular Natural Treatment

An acne nodule is a solid, dome-shaped or irregularly-shaped lesion. A nodule is characterized by inflammation and extends into the deeper layers of the skin.Nodular acne may cause tissue destruction that can result in scarring. The nodules may be very painful, it is a severe form of acne that may not respond to therapies other than Accutane but you may want to try acne nodular natural treatment before going that route.

You should never try to squeeze or pop a nodular lesion, for squeezing or popping such a lesion can cause major injury to the skin at its base. If squeezed, the nodular acne lesion can last for more months than it would normally, if you had not touched it. Permanent scarring often occurs when nodular acne is left untreated or the nodules are squeezed.

You may wonder what causes nodular acne. Listed below are the possible causes:

1. Hormones are thought by many to be the number one cause of acne. This would explain why the majority of acne sufferers are adolescents. Hormones are one of the main causes of acne flare-ups during the times of menstruation. Many women have an improvement in their acne during pregnancy.

2. Birth Control Pills -starting to take or stopping birth control pills may cause acne.

3. Stress - may cause the production of hormones like cortisol, which can worsen an acne condition. Stress affects different hormone levels in the body. When these hormone levels change the body commands the skins oil glands to expand, and which then secrete extra oil. This chain of events may cause pimples and nodules to form in those who have acne.

4. Oily or heavy make up - Heavy make-up can clog pores and oily makeups add additional oil that acne doesn't need. Cosmetics to avoid are certain moisturizers, pomades, particularly the ones carrying petrolatum, oleic acid, vegetable oils, lanolin, butyl stearate, and lauryl alcohol.

5. Drugs such lithium is thought to cause or worsen acne.

6. Improper Diet. A diet that is high in refined carbohydrates and sugars can worsen acne for some people.

7. Over-Abrasive Cleansing. Harsh exfoliators can harm your skin and spread infections.

8. Picking and Squeezing. These hard to resist actions can send the infection deeper into the skin and cause scarring to occur.

9. Environmental factors like high humidity and pollution. High humidity causes the skin to sweat. Pollution is bad not only for skin but for your overall health.

10. Genes-family members can be acne sufferers.Cystic acne and nodular acne are thought to be hereditary.

Acne antibiotics such as tetracycline, minocycline, and doxycyline are commonly prescribed for nodular acne. Side effects when taking these antibiotics, such as nausea, increased sensitivity to the sun, dizziness, and changes in skin color may occur. All antibiotics can cause Candida vaginal yeast infections in women and may decrease the effectiveness of birth control pills so another form of birth control may be needed. Also, prolonged treatment with oral antibiotics may be necessary to achieve the desired results. To effectively treat nodular acne, patients usually must take oral antibiotics for as long as 4 to 6 months.

Oral acne antibiotics work by decreasing the number of bacteria in and around the follicles of the skin. Acne antibiotics also work by reducing the inflammatory chemicals produced by white blood cells. Antibiotics reduce the concentration of free fatty acids in the sebum which also reduces the inflammatory response around the nodules.

If antibiotics are not successful at controlling cystic and nodular acne, Accutane is sometimes prescribed. Accutane is prescribed for moderate to severe acne vulgaris with cysts and nodules that has failed other treatments. Accutane is a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin A, but it has serious side effects. It is critical for women not to take Accutane while pregnant and not to become pregnant while taking it. Accutane "cures" about half of those who take it so that they never need to do anything else for acne.

Although nodular acne is not a serious health threat, severe acne can lead to disfiguring, permanent scarring, which can be traumatizing for people who suffer from the skin disorder. Although it is appropriate to try acne nodular natural treatment, the expertise of a dermatologist usually is necessary.
